Wednesday, January 25, 2017

Usain Bolt has lost one of his Olympic gold medals and his famed ‘triple-triple’ crown after a Jamaica team-mate tested positive for a banned substance.

Nesta Carter one was quarter of the team which stormed to 4x100metres relay gold at the 2008 Beijing Games.

The 31-year-old ran the first leg at the Bird’s Nest, helping Jamaica to a new world record of 37.10 seconds and Bolt to his third Olympic gold medal.

But, after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to retest a selection of 454 doping samples last year, it has been found Carter’s sample contained the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine.

His doping violation means the entire Jamaica team have been disqualified from the race, meaning the gold passes to Trinidad and Tobago and world’s-fastest-man Bolt loses one of his coveted medals.

The IOC announced the news on Wednesday afternoon.
