The forward put his side ahead with a fantastic volley and thought Juve should ‘easily’ have beaten his former side
Cristiano Ronaldo believes Juventus should have beaten Manchester United ‘easily’.
The forward scored his first Champions League goal for the club – a brilliant volley – but it counted for nothing as the Premier League fought back with two late goals to stun the Turin crowd and win 2-1.
And when the ball did crash into the back of the net, United fans, who worshipped him for six years when he played for the club, probably didn’t expect to see him run off in jubilation.
However, unlike, his muted celebration when he scored for Real Madrid in 2013, Ronaldo raced away to lift up his shirt and reveal his Adonis-like torso.
“I have seen the replay in the dressing room,” Ronaldo told Viasat. “I didn’t realise it was a fantastic goal, but I did good movement and I kicked the ball strongly.
“I was happy for the goal but we are a little disappointed because we should have won the game easily, by three or four goals.”
However, they couldn’t find a way to kill the game and the former Manchester United player was not impressed with the visitors’ tactics.
“Manchester, they didn’t do much, in my opinion,” he continued.
“They created two chances, set pieces, I know the English teams they are always looking for the set pieces.
“But we will learn from our mistakes and we are still top of the group so we are good.”
The win puts United in second place on seven points, while Juventus sit at the top of the Group H table with nine points. Valencia, meanwhile, are on five points.
