The Blues boss is under immense pressure following the dismal 6-0 defeat at the Etihad
Chelsea fans have turned on Maurizio Sarri following the embarrassing 6-0 defeat at Manchester City on Sunday.
A Sergio Aguero hat-trick, as well as goals from Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan, condemned Chelsea to their heaviest defeat in Premier League history as their misery on the road continued.
After the convincing 2-0 defeat to Arsenal and 4-0 humiliation at Bournemouth, Chelsea have now conceded an astonishing 12 goals in their last three away trips and subsequently dropped out of the top four.
Speaking after the game, Sarri issued an apology to the Chelsea fans, but couldn’t offer an explanation.
“I am doing my best and I’m trying to get the players to do their best but at the moment I can only say sorry because in the last three away matches we played very badly,” he told talkSPORT.
“It’s very difficult to describe our performance. It’s also very difficult to understand because during the week I really was very happy with the team.”
And City boss Pep Guardiola leapt to the Italian’s defence despite Sarri’s refusal to shake his hand at the final whistle.
“They beat us at Stamford Bridge. Against Napoli last season it was tight at times,” he said.
“People don’t understand how difficult it is [to play this way].
“In my first season it was tough too. It takes time, it needs owners to really believe in that.”
However, some Chelsea supporters have run out of patience.
They are yet to witness a single away goal in 2019 and fans on Twitter have started calling for Sarri to be sacked.
