Manchester United’s Champions League exit at the hands of Sevilla is ‘the beginning of the end’ for Jose Mourinho’s reign as Red Devils manager.

That’s the view of talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy, who laid into the boss following the Red Devils’ shock defeat on Tuesday.

It was all to play for at Old Trafford following a goalless first leg in Spain, which was largely thanks to goalkeeper David de Gea’s brilliant display, but the hosts put in a lifeless performance and were deservedly dumped out of the competition with a 2-1 defeat.

Mourinho told the press following the game that the result ‘was not the end of the world’ and bizarrely said the European defeat ‘was nothing new’ for the club, in reference to his own victories over United as an opposing manager for Porto and Real MadridREAD THOSE QUOTES IN FULL HERE

But Cundy believes the result may be the catalyst that sees Mourinho leave the club having so far failed to mount a challenge on the Premier League and Champions League titles.

Speaking after the game on Tuesday’s Sports Bar, the former Chelsea defender said: “This is the beginning of the end for Jose at Old Trafford.

“You’ll go back to this result in years to come and say this was the beginning of the end.

“He’s been there for two years, he’s been brought in to win the Premier League and the Champions League and he’s not got close.

“This year they had one of the easiest ties in the group for any English side and they had to get through out of the last-16 against Sevilla.

“This is catastrophic for Jose, it’s one of the worst results in his career.”
