De Gea has established himself as perhaps the best goalkeeper in world football this season

The Red Devils were on the end of a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the LaLiga side on Tuesday night, which knocked Jose Mourinho’s side out the Champions League at the round-of-16 stage.
Only once since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013 have United made it to the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier cup competition, and despite their success in last season’s Europa League, it is clear the Old Trafford club are not what they once were.
And this decrease in reputation is causing numerous players to reconsider their futures with the Red Devils, according to Marca in Spain.
The report reads: ‘This new failure will make both the club and many players rethink the future. Ambitious players such as De Gea, [Marcus] Rashford, [Nemanja] Matic, [Anthony] Martial and [Paul] Pogba could start thinking about a future without United after debacles like the one against Sevilla. The Spanish goalkeeper has been hurt by the unexpected defeat.’
Furthermore, it is claimed ‘United’s sporting reality clashes with De Gea’s ambition’, while the Spain goalkeeper ‘and his colleagues know first-hand Manchester United is no longer what it once was’.
Real Madrid are known admirers of the 27-year-old, and have already failed in one approach to sign him in August 2015.
