Roberto Firmino hits late winner for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s men extend Premier League unbeaten run to 40 games

Liverpool’s stunning unbeaten run now stands at 40 Premier League games after Roberto Firmino’s 85th minute goal secured a hard-fought win at Wolves.

Wolves looked on course to get something from the game after Raul Jimenez’ leveller six minutes after the interval, with Nuno Santo’s men then pushing for a winner.

But Jurgen Klopp’s men held firm and grabbed a late winner to send the away faithful delirious.

The Reds needed less than eight minutes to take the lead.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner from the right was met at the edge of the six-yard box by Jordan Henderson and the Reds captain diverted it into the back of the net via a combination of his head and shoulder.

There was a VAR review to determine whether it was handball, but the goal stood.

Liverpool suffered a blow midway through the half when Sadio Mane went off. It was not immediately clear what the issue was but the Senegal star wandered towards the touchline before sitting down on the pitch while play was ongoing.

He was replaced by new signing Takumi Minamino, who was handed his Premier League debut.

Mohamed Salah had chances to increase Liverpool’s lead but was denied by determined Wolves defending when he looked set to score.

That meant it was only Henderson’s goal that separated the sides at the break as the Reds looked on course to move 16 points clear at the Premier League summit once again.

Wolves equalised in the 51st minute following a superb move that was started and finished by Raul Jimenez.

Jimenez tore forward with a powerful run before feeding Adama Traore on the right. The winger’s pinpoint cross picked out the Mexico international in the middle and he sent a glancing header past Alisson to make it 1-1.
