Cape Town – Duane Vermeulen is likely to feature for the Bulls in next year’s Super Rugby competition, a report indicates.
Vermeulen, 32, is currently in Japan where he plays for the Kubota Spears, but recent reports indicated that the Bulls, Stormers and English club Bath were interested in his services after the conclusion of the Japanese Top League.
Netwerk24 reported on Sunday that the Bulls have won the race to secure Vermeulen’s signature.
The report states that the Springbok No 8 has signed a dual contract with the Bulls and SA Rugby to ply his trade at Loftus Versfeld next season.
The Stormers proved unsuccessful in their attempts to lure him back to Cape Town, the report added.
This new national contract will ensure that Vermeulen is available for all the Springboks’ matches in 2019 – a Rugby World Cup year.
Vermeulen will miss the upcoming Rugby Championship due to his club commitments in Japan but will be available for the Springboks on their year-end tour to Europe in 2018.
