Sport24.co.za | Jamieson leads Dutch Open as Garcia moves into contention

Amsterdam – Scotland’s Scott Jamieson claimed a two-shot lead at the halfway stage of the Dutch Open in Amsterdam after firing a seven-under-par 65 on Friday.

The world number 283 made seven birdies in his bogey-free second round to move clear of a quartet of players – Sergio Garcia, James Morrison, Callum Shinkwin and Matthew Southgate.

“It was a great day,” said Jamieson, who sits at 11-under for the tournament.

“You just need to pick the right shot and execute it. I don’t think it is a course you can overpower so hopefully I can think my way around it.”

Former Masters champion Garcia, looking for his first title in over a year, carded a 67 to reach nine-under overall.

“(I’m) trying to do the best things possible,” said the Spaniard.

“Obviously I have been doing a lot of good things this week, a couple of things that (I) need to do better, but overall a good amount of good things and I just have to go out there and trust it, believe in myself and see what happens.”

Belgian Thomas Pieters, the 2015 winner in the Netherlands, is in a nine-way tie for eighth at seven-under on a tightly-packed leaderboard.

Another former Masters winner, Patrick Reed, only made the cut by two shots on three-under.
