Cape Town – Lions head coach Swys de Bruin insists Springbok and Lions lock Franco Mostert is not going anywhere next season.

Bristol Post reported that numerous English clubs were interested in signing the South African once his contract runs out with the Lions and his Japanese franchise, the Ricoh Black Rams, next year.

The Rugby Paper‘s transfer column On the Blindside reported that Mostert was linked to a move to English Championship leaders Bristol and Johan Ackermann’s Gloucester.

Several other English clubs are also reportedly interested in Mostert’s signature, including Leicester Tigers, Bath, Sale Sharks and Worcester Warriors.

However, according to the SuperSport website, De Bruin has dismissed any overseas move for the Lions lock – until the end of the Super Rugby season next year.

“He is contracted to us until the end of Super Rugby next year. Obviously they want him, but he is staying with us… He is our player,” De Bruin said.

De Bruin then stated that he would want to keep Mostert at Ellis Park after 2018 and said that the Lions would “fight for him”.

Mostert has played 15 Tests for the Springboks since making his debut against Ireland last year.
