Cape Town – Louis Oosthuizen was South Africa’s best performing golfer at this past week’s 117th US Open at Erin Hills Golf Course in Wisconsin.

Oosthuizen shot a one-over-par 73 on Sunday to finish three-under 285 for the tournament.

He finished tied for 23rd, 13 shots behind eventual champion, American Brooks Koepka, who claimed his first major title.

Besdies Oosthuizen, four other South Africans made the cut.

Brandon Stone finished on a respectable 1-over, while Branden Grace signed for a 4-over, 292. Ernie Els (+7) and Thomas Aiken (+8) struggled over the weekend.

Two-time US Open champion Els made headlines in the opening round when he carded a 2-under-par 70 as he launched his 25th – and possibly final – US Open campaign.

The other South Africans taking part – Charl Schwartzel, George Coetzee and Oliver Bekker – all failed to make the halfway cut.
