Tottenham transfer news: Club target Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake with Jan Vertonghen injured and out of contract in the summer

The long serving Spurs ace has also been ruled out with injury until December and it is thought the Dutchman could be bought for around £40m

Tottenham are targeting Nathan Ake in their search for a new centre-back.

The club confirmed that Jan Vertonghen’s hamstring injury will keep him out of action until December and Ake, report The Sun, is thought to be valued at around £40million.

The 23-year-old has impressed for Eddie Howe’s side so far this season and is also a full Dutch international.

He moved to Chelsea’s academy from Feyenoord in 2011 at the age of 16 and, after loan spells at Reading, Norwich and Bournemouth, made the move to the south coast permanent, with the Cherries paying around £20m in 2017.

Vertonghen, meanwhile, is one of the club’s most popular players, in addition to being one of the longest serving.

The 31-year-old, who will be 32 in April, signed from Ajax in 2012 and has been ever present in the back line since.

His current contract expires at the end of the season and in September explained the club may trigger a clause in the deal that would see him remain until 2020.

“My contract is expiring at the end of the season, but Tottenham have an option to extend it with one year,” he said.

“I think they will take up the option. We’ll see what happens.”
