UFC president Dana White says it is unlike Americans to ‘run and hide’ in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
White was forced to call off three UFC events up until April 11 due to travel restrictions in the US amid the deadly virus.
The coronavirus outbreak has infected more than 450,000 people worldwide, which includes over 20,000 deaths.
White is still planning on holding UFC 249 on April 18, with Khabib Nurmagomedov set to face Tony Ferguson.
And the 50-year-old has questioned how long the coronavirus restrictions will last in the US.
He told Yahoo Sports: “Whether you’re a coronavirus expert or not, it’s like hiding from cancer. You can’t hide from this thing. If you’re a high-risk person this thing is going to get you.
“If coronavirus is going to be what’s going to get me, so be it. It is what it is.
Give COVID-19 the red card
The quicker we work together to stop coronavirus spreading, the sooner we can get back into the pubs, the gyms and stadiums and arenas to see live sport again…
STAY AT HOME. Only leave for the following purposes:
- to shop for basic essentials – only when you really need to
- to do one form of exercise a day – such as a run, walk or cycle, alone or with other people you live with
- for any medical need – for example, to visit a pharmacy or deliver essential supplies to a vulnerable person
- to travel to and from work – but only where this is absolutely necessary

The government has also issued further detail on what we can do during lockdown.
Everyone should do what they can to stop coronavirus spreading.
“Heart disease, car accidents, cancer. The list goes on and on of things that kill people every year. One thing is guaranteed, we are all going to die of something.
“I can’t be somebody who’s going to hide in my house for months. Hide in my house, for what? No way.
“To be honest with you, if this goes on for months, I’ve got a great house to be locked up in. My house was built for quarantine, we’re having a blast.
“I’m spending incredible time with my kids and family. We’re doing things with the kids we haven’t done since they were little, I can do this forever if that’s what people want to do.
“Since when do Americans run and hide in their houses instead of taking this thing head-on and find solutions?
“Protect the people that need to be protected, I don’t think I’m a high-risk guy for this thing – maybe I’m wrong and if I’m wrong then corona’s going to get me.”
