Young aspiring goalkeeper’s stay-at-home training routine earns praise from David de Gea, Ben Foster and other Premier League stars

Keeping ourselves entertained during the coronavirus pandemic has been difficult without any football to watch.

People in the UK have been asked to remain at home in an attempt to combat the deadly disease, with more than 450,000 cases worldwide.

The video of the young aspiring goalkeeper was a huge hit on Twitter

But the virus has not stopped a young aspiring goalkeeper from training during the UK lockdown.

In a video uploaded to Twitter, the youngster is filmed kicking the ball against a wall and diving to stop it from entering the goal.

A caption on the post, which has been retweeted almost 50,000 times, reads: “When you’re a goalkeeper… and an only child… in self isolation… and trying to keep up with your training… came up with this himself! I’m so impressed. #coronavirus #StayHomeStaySafe.”

Give COVID-19 the red card

The quicker we work together to stop coronavirus spreading, the sooner we can get back into the pubs, the gyms and stadiums and arenas to see live sport again…

STAY AT HOME. Only leave for the following purposes:

  • to shop for basic essentials – only when you really need to
  • to do one form of exercise a day – such as a run, walk or cycle, alone or with other people you live with
  • for any medical need – for example, to visit a pharmacy or deliver essential supplies to a vulnerable person
  • to travel to and from work – but only where this is absolutely necessary

The government has also issued further detail on what we can do during lockdown.

Everyone should do what they can to stop coronavirus spreading.

The youngster’s technique and dedication has caught the eye of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, Watford’s Ben Foster and Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton.

De Gea tweeted: “Love it!”

Foster echoed De Gea’s praise and offered to train alongside the boy.

He said: “What a legend!!!! I don’t know how we’re gonna be able to do it but I’m gonna have to put a training session on for ya!!!! Keep going mate I love it.”

Meanwhile, Heaton added: “Very impressive.”

The goalkeeper drew further plaudits from former Manchester United star Peter Schmeichel.

He said: “Nothing, not even an evil virus like the CONVID-19 should stop a talented goalkeeper from working on getting better. Well done young man.”

Manchester United midfielder and all-round nice guy Juan Mata could not resist chiming in with more nice words by insisting he wants to practise his free-kicks against the goalkeeper.

He said: “One day, if he wants, and when all this is over, I would like to practice [sic] my freeckicks [sic] with him on goal! What do you think?”
