Chase Elliott will take over the iconic No. 24 Chevrolet from Jeff Gordon, who plans to retire at the conclusion of this season.
Elliott, the 2014 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion and son of NASCAR Hall of Famer Bill has made five Sprint Cup starts this season in preparation for next year. He posted a best result of 16th at Richmond, driving the NAPA-backed No. 25 as a fifth entry for Hendrick Motorsports.
“I think the car turned out great and hope everybody likes it,” said Elliott, who thanked NAPA AUTO PARTS for letting him make “a few decisions” throughout the design process. “They were really open and willing to some of the ideas that we had.
“The light blue stripes actually came off of their drag car that Ron Capps runs. So it’s kind of cool to keep it all in the family and I think it turned out pretty cool.”
Axalta is one of the primary sponsors currently showcased on the No. 24, but that sponsorship will transition over to Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the No. 88 in 2016.
“I’m so excited,” said team owner Rick Hendrick. “What he did in the XFINITY Series last year and winning the championship, and what we’ve seen out of him when he gets into the Cup cars now, I can’t wait to see him take it on next year.”
