Arsenal offer player-plus-cash bid to land James Maddison but Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers fires warning to Gunners over transfer

Arsenal have opened negotiations over a summer transfer for Leicester’s James Maddison, reports claim

Mikel Arteta is keen to inject some creativity into his midfield and the 24-year-old is believed to be at the top of his wish list.

Maddison is said to be keen on a move to north London

The Foxes signed the playmaker from Norwich City for £20million three years ago and he has dazzled at King Power, scoring 27 goals in 116 appearances for the club.

According to, the north London club has offered a player-plus-cash deal to sign the England international with their £60m asking price a stumbling block for the Emirates hierarchy.

The report suggests Joe Willock, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah are available for transfer this summer.

The asking price is a high one as it is understood Leicester will have to pay between 10 or 15 per cent of the fee to Norwich as part of a sell-on clause inserted by the Canaries in 2018.

Real Madrid ace Martin Odegaard, who flourished on loan at the Emirates after joining in January, is also being eyed as a potential alternative.

The Spanish giants will demand a sizeable fee for a player once considered one of the most exciting prospects in Europe.

As a result, the Gunners may still need to offload certain first-team players.

Hector Bellerin in talks to join Roma and Inter Milan respectively, but Granit Xhaka, who was widely expected to leave, is now expected to sign a new long-term deal at the Emirates.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, however, has sought to warn Arsenal off Maddison, insisting no member of his squad is looking for a way out of King Power Stadium.

Quizzed on the exit talk, Rodgers said: “In conversations with the club, we don’t have to sell. That’s something that’s been made clear. The players want to stay. It’s a really exciting time at the club.

“There’s lots of gossip and speculation around but I’m loving working with the guys here, they love being here, and we certainly have no need to sell. So I would suspect we’re looking to keep our best players.”
