Cal junior guard Mathews to transfer for last year

Cal junior shooting guard Jordan Mathews announced on Tuesday that he is graduating and will play his final season elsewhere.

Mathews told ESPN he hasn’t made a decision on where he will go next season, but sources told ESPN that Gonzaga will be in the mix.

The 6-foot-4 Mathews averaged 13.5 points this past season and shot 42 percent from beyond the arc. He averaged 13.6 points as a sophomore and made 44 percent of his shots from 3-point range.

Cal lost Jaylen Brown early to the NBA draft along with senior point guard Tyrone Wallace, but the Bears brought back potential lottery pick Ivan Rabb — and were expected to battle for one of the top spots in the Pac-12 with the return of wings Jabari Bird and Mathews.
