Antonio Rudiger lies injured during Germany training
Chelsea transfer target Antonio Rudiger has suffered a crushing inury blow on the eve of Euro 2016.
The Roma defender, who has been heavily linkied with a move to the Blues this summer, ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Germany’s first training session in France on Tuesday.
He has been ruled out of the tournament, with Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah dragted in as his replacement, and faces miss ALL of next season.
The injury is likely to come as a major blow to Chelsea, as well as Rudiger.
Incoming Blues boss Antonio Conte is on the lookout for a new central defender and had earmarked the 23-year-old as a leading target.
Rudiger spent last season on loan at Roma from Stuttgart and the Italian side exercised their option to make the deal permanent for around £7m in May,
But Chelsea were set to make a £20million a bid to try and tempt Roma into a quick sale – and they were said to be receptive to the idea of cashing in.
Conte, however, will now have to turn his attentions elsewhere, with Juventus centre-back Leonardo Bonucci an alternative target.
