Courtney cleared to race on the Gold Coast

James Courtney will make his return to the driver’s seat on the Gold Coast this weekend, after receiving medical clearance following his rib and lung injuries sustained at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The Holden Racing Team driver was injured when struck by debris sent flying by a helicopter right before qualifying at the Sydney Motorsport Park round, which meant he missed not only the Sydney round, but the Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 as well.

He will make his comeback this weekend on the Gold Coast, partnering Jack Perkins in the #22 Commodore after being given the all-clear from doctors.

“It’s a relief to finally receive medical clearance and be back for my hometown race on the Gold Coast – I’m raring to go,” Courtney said.

“Missing three events, especially Bathurst, was tough, but my doctors tell me I’m okay now and ready to race.

“The Gold Coast event is one of the season’s toughest races on one of the most challenging and unforgiving circuits we visit, but after nine weeks out of the car I’m up for it.”

Russell Ingall, who replaced Courtney at Sandown and Bathurst, will switch sides and suit up in blue for the Gold Coast round, filling in for injured Chaz Mostert at Prodrive.
