Fabricio Coloccini has suspension revoked after Newcastle win appeal against Sunderland red card

Newcastle United have successfully appealed against captain Fabricio Coloccini’s red card in the Wear-Tyne derby with Sunderland on Sunday.

The Football Association, however, has still charged the club with failing to control their players in the aftermath of that decision in the 3-0 defeat.

The Argentine was given his marching orders just before half time in the game at the Stadium of Light after referee Bobby Madeley adjudged him to have deliberately denied Steven Fletcher a goalscoring opportunity.

Adam Johnson would score the resultant spotkick, sending the Black Cats on their way to a sixth successive win over their north east rivals after the Magpies had controlled much of the early proceedings.

Coloccini was set to miss his side’s home clash with Stoke City on Saturday but will now be available for selection.
