Former TCU star Collins to pursue pro career

Former TCU star Chauncey Collins, who led the Horned Frogs in scoring last season, told ESPN on Monday that he will officially pursue a professional basketball career after signing with Arête Sports Agency.

Last week, Collins announced his decision to leave TCU after the school released a statement that said the sophomore had decided to turn pro to support his family.

But Collins told ESPN that he was “weighing my options” for the future, which included a possible transfer to another school. After discussions with his family over the weekend, however, Collins decided a pro career made the most sense.

“[I will] pursue my professional career,” he said. “Just after talking with my family, I feel as if it’s best.”

Collins, who played point guard for the Horned Frogs, averaged a team-best 12.3 points per game as a sophomore in 2015-16. New coach Jamie Dixon recently added Jaylen Fisher, a four-star point guard and former UNLV commit, to his roster — a move that could have forced Collins to switch positions in 2016-17.

Collins, who did not declare for the NBA draft prior to the May 25 deadline for underclassmen, said he’s not sure if he will seek opportunities overseas or attempt to break into the NBA through alternative means such as the D-League.
