Gabe Rosado Returns to Action Saturday With Potential Mega Bout in the Balance

Veteran crowd-pleaser Gabe Rosado (22-9, 13 KOs) will make his return to the squared circle this Saturday night on the undercard of Francisco Vargas vs. Orland Salido.

This time around, “King Gabe” will find himself across the ring from a very untested, Antonio Gutierrez (20-1-1, 9 KOs). While Gutierrez will look to surprise the boxing world, Rosado will look to move himself into title shot contention yet again.

The Philly fighter has never been one to shy away from a challenge, whether big or small. Rosado, unlike Gutierrez, is battle-tested and has faced the top names in the Middleweight division.

Gennady Golovkin, Jermell Charlo, and Peter Quillin are just some the names that got the best of the Puerto Rican fighter. Rosado came up short against all three men, but all the while he displayed a warrior’s style each time.

“Right now I just need to focus on one guy, and that’s Gutierrez. I can’t overlook the guy,” said a cautious Rosado during a recent interview with Round By Round Boxing. “I can’t start thinking about Canelo or a [Julio Cesar] Chavez Jr. I have to get passed this guy first.”

Rosado was last seen squaring off against Joshua Clottey in his debut bout with new trainer and former world champion Fernando Vargas. In regards to being trained by Vargas, Rosado stated, “He gives me confidence in and out of the ring. He gives some extra edge going into the fights.”

Although he is focused on his fight against Gutierrez, Rosado knows that there are some big names being mentioned for potential future bouts.

“I’d love to fight Canelo at 160, but honestly I prefer Chavez. The weight may be a better option against Chavez,” said Rosado.

With no new negotiations being discussed for a Canelo-Golovkin bout, Alvarez will need a partner in September to stay active for his mega bout against the Kazakh. With a solid showing against Gutierrez, Rosado may get his wish and take on the Mexican star.
