Instructor poll: Woods won't win another major

Tiger Woods has been stuck on 14 majors for the last seven years, and according to many of the top teachers in the country that’s exactly where his career haul will end.

In a recent Golf Magazine survey of the publication’s top 100 teachers, 57 percent believe that Woods will not win another major while only 2 percent still believe that he will eclipse Jack Nicklaus‘ all-time mark of 18 titles.

Woods, 39, last won a major at the 2008 U.S. Open. After suffering through the worst season of his professional career, he announced last month that he had undergone a second microdiscectomy back surgery that will keep him sidelined until early 2016.

Speaking last week in Mexico, Woods said that reaching – and passing – Nicklaus’ major mark remains a significant goal.

“It’s important for me to have more than 18 majors when all is said and done,” Woods said. “It took Jack his whole career to achieve it and mine is not done yet. I believe that I have a very good record for 20 years on the tour.”

Twenty-eight percent of those polled believe that Woods will win exactly one more major before retiring, while only 7 percent believe that Woods will win four more majors to tie Nicklaus, who won his 18th and final major at age 46.
