Mercedes promises "full blast" racing between Hamilton and Rosberg

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has promised ‘full blast, free racing’ between his drivers for the rest of the Formula 1 season now the world championship has been settled.

Lewis Hamilton clinched his third world championship with victory at the United States Grand Prix, with the German manufacturer having won the constructors’ crown in Russia a fortnight ago.

With three races still to go, Wolff is well aware that the focus for his team can now switch to 2016, but in the meantime some fun can be had.

Speaking to about what to expect over the rest of the campaign, Wolff said: “Full blast, free racing, no worries – and enjoy the races.

“It’s a very comfortable situation. But I don’t know what to expect, I have never had the experience.

“I am not sure if it is going to be nice, but at least the championship is done. That is why I am already thinking of 2016.”

Champions have the luck

While Hamilton’s early clinching of the world championship has been helped by a run of retirements for Rosberg, Wolff said that the Briton has been at the top of his game as well all season.

“Lewis was just good throughout the season, with no mistakes, and the car didn’t let him down either.

“And Nico had a few more DNFs because of the car, like Monza and Sochi. He was just unlucky also. But now we have a deserved world champion and the champions have the luck.”
