Pistons' Meeks fractures foot, out indefinitely

Detroit Pistons shooting guard Jodie Meeks suffered a Jones fracture to his right foot Wednesday night.

“We’ll get further assessment and know better on a timetable in the next couple of days,” Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said, according to “But they, they X-rayed him, he’s got a Jones fracture.”

A Jones fracture is a broken bone at the base of the small toe. Kevin Durant suffered a similar injury last season and was sidelined for seven weeks.

Meeks left the Pistons’ 92-87 victory over the Utah Jazz with 9:32 left in the second quarter. He played six minutes before his injury with one shot attempt. The night before, he scored 2 points in 11 minutes during Detroit’s season-opening 106-94 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.

Meeks, in his second season with the Pistons, missed 22 games last season with a stress reaction in his lower back. He finished last season averaging 11.1 points in 60 games.

“You feel bad for the guy,” Van Gundy said, according to “Last year, it’s the first exhibition game. He plays one exhibition game and he goes out.

“And now he comes back in great shape, came off a really good last preseason game, and gets a fracture tonight. He’s sort of snakebit right now and I feel for him.”

Meeks signed a $19.5 million, three-year deal with the Pistons before the 2014-15 season after averaging 15.7 points in 77 games with the Los Angeles Lakers the previous season.
