10. Nicolas Otamendi: Signed by Manchester City for £32m from Valencia in August 2015

There were a few raised eyebrows when City agreed to pay Valencia a hefty £32m for the Argentine, particularly after the disappointment of also £32m signing Eliaquim Mangala the previous summer. With much of the work of defenders going unnoticed in comparison to forward-thinking players, it’s difficult for supporters to agree with such a price-tag, but Otamendi is slowly becoming key for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, moving ahead of Mangala and Martin Demichelis in the pecking order. His arrival has been even more important amid Vincent Kompany’s fitness concerns.

2015 is coming to an end, and after summer filled with business, attention is now turning to the January window.

Only a few months’ ago, Chelsea legend Petr Cech swapped southwest London for the north of the capital in joining rivals Arsenal, while Manchester City broke their club-record fee twice in the summer market on Raheem Sterling and then Kevin De Bruyne.
