Rugby league hero Kevin Sinfield scores first points in union

British rugby league legend Kevin Sinfield scored his first points in rugby union after kicking a penalty during a 15-minute substitute cameo for Yorkshire Carnegie during a 32-10 win over Ospreys at Headingley.

Sinfield came on in the 65th minute at fly half with Yorkshire 24-10 up in front of just 627 spectators, but failed to land a touchline conversion, sending it wide when presented with the chance to add two points.

The 35-year-old seven-time Super League champion only started training with the Championship team at the end of October, but impressed Carnegie head coach Bryan Redpath enough to be included as a replacement in Sunday’s British and Irish Cup tie.
