South Africa chose to bat v West Indies
Live scorecard and ball-by-ball details
It has been 178 days since West Indies last played an ODI but the break did not bring captain Jason Holder any luck at the toss. AB de Villiers called correctly and opted to set a target, despite rain looming in Guyana.
Holder identified the weather threat as a good reason to chase and his team will do so with Kieron Pollard in their XI. Pollard returned to the national side after making his comeback from a knee injury sustained in South Africa’s domestic 20-over competition in November. In addition to his batting duties, he would form part of a four-man pace attack along with Holder, Carlos Brathwaite and Jerome Taylor.
South Africa went in with legspinner Imran Tahir and left-arm spinner Aaron Phangiso, which meant no space for Morne Morkel. Instead, Kyle Abbott, Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris would make up the pace attack. South Africa stuck to a familiar batting line-up, with Rilee Rossouw stepping in for the injured Faf du Plessis.
West Indies: 1 Johnson Charles, 2 Andre Fletcher, 3 Darren Bravo, 4 Marlon Samuels, 5 Kieron Pollard, 6 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 7 Carlos Brathwaite, 8 Jason Holder (capt), 10 Jerome Taylor, 10 Sunil Narine, 11 Sulieman Benn
South Africa: 1 Hashim Amla, 2 Quinton de Kock (wk), 3 Rilee Rossouw, 4 AB de Villiers (capt), 5 JP Duminy, 6 Farhaan Behardien, 7 Chris Morris, 8 Kagiso Rabada, 9 Kyle Abbott, 10 Aaron Phangiso, 11 Imran Tahir
