Jay Rodriguez is close to a Southampton return
Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez could be close to a first-team return after saying he feels “fully fit” following an outing with the club’s under-21s on Monday.
Rodriguez’s career has been ravaged by injuries over the last two years, after he spent 16 months out with a cruciate knee ligament before having to undergo surgery on his foot in October.
But the 26-year-old says he feels in good condition after playing an hour in the young Saints’ side, and is ready to make his long-awaited comeback before the end of the season.
“I feel fully fit now,” he told the club’s official website.
“I think it’s just obviously match fitness and by playing hopefully I can improve.
“I feel now that I’ve played a game, a competitive game, it’s just a case of see what happens and just try and work hard and keep improving.”
