Cape Town – Despite their humiliating – and historic – first-ever defeat on home soil to Ireland, bookmakers have backed the Springboks to bounce back in Johannesburg next Saturday.

Leading SA bookies Sportingbet have been quick to back Allister Coetzee’s men to square their three-Test at Ellis Park in five days time.

The Boks went down 26-20 to Ireland at Newlands on Saturday – their first defeat in South Africa against the Irish in eight matches, the first of which took place in 1961.

The Boks started Saturday’s match at 15-point favourites, but that has been “revised” to 11 points for next weekend’s clash.

The Boks can be backed at 2/9 as victors of the match, with Ireland 16/5 to win – and clinch the series. The draw is on offer at 25/1.

Coetzee hinted at keeping changes to a minimum, but will have to replace flyhalf Pat Lambie who has been ruled out due to concussion.
