Rugby | Carel’s son could make Stormers debut

Cape Town – Jean-Luc du Plessis, the son of legendary former Springbok
and Western Province wing Carel du Plessis, could make his Super Rugby debut for the
Stormers against the Sharks at Newlands on Saturday.

With Robert du Preez set for a long stint on the sidelines
due to a knee injury, coach Robbie Fleck must decide on a new flyhalf for this
weekend’s South African derby.

Kurt Coleman is likely to start at No 10, but Fleck must
choose between either Du Plessis or Brandon Thomson for his reserve flyhalf.

The two 21-year-olds played under Fleck last season when he
coached the Western Province Under-21 team to the national title.

Du Plessis follows in the footsteps of his father
who was dubbed the “Prince of Wings” by the Newlands faithful.

Du Plessis senior played 12 Tests for the Springboks between
1982 and 1989 and was part of the Western Province team that won the Currie Cup
a record five times in a row in the 1980s. He was also the Springbok coach in
