Cape Town – Former Springbok loose forward Pedrie Wannenburg is set to play in the USA’s new Pro Rugby league.
According to Rapport, the 35-year-old will play for the Colorado-based Denver franchise.
The 35-year-old, who is the first South African to join the league, says he is looking forward to ending his rugby career in the USA. He also believes many South African players will be attracted to play in the new league.
“I have a five-year visa and plan to play two more seasons. Then I want to get involved in coaching,” said Wannenburg. “I believe I have a lot to offer in a country where rugby is the fastest growing team sport.”
Former Springbok centre Andre Snyman is also part of Denver’s coaching staff.
Wannenburg, who played 20 Tests for the Springboks between 2002 and 2007, will travel to Colorado in two weeks’ time after his last game for Oyonnax in the French Top 14.
The inaugural six-team Pro Rugby league season is set to kick off on April 17.
