Sport24.co.za | Injury woes strike the Gunners

London – Arsenal’s England internationals Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been ruled out for around three weeks due to injury, manager Arsene Wenger revealed on Thursday.

The pair were injured in the early stages of Arsenal’s mid-week 3-0 League Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday, with Oxlade-Chamberlain sustaining a hamstring injury and Walcott, his replacement, picking up a calf problem.

Arsenal are still waiting for scans to determine the full extent of their injuries, but Wenger said they would not return to action before next month’s international break.

“We hope they are light injuries, but they are out until after the international break,” Wenger told the Arsenal website.

“Nothing has changed since after the game. They are out, but the scans are today — it’s 48 hours afterwards.”

The pair are due to miss Arsenal’s matches against Swansea City, Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as England’s friendlies against Spain and France.

Arsenal’s first home game after the international break is a trip to West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on November 21. They are currently second in the table.

Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain join Mikel Arteta (ankle), Aaron Ramsey (hamstring), David Ospina (shoulder), Danny Welbeck (knee), Jack Wilshere (ankle) and Tomas Rosicky (knee) on the list of injured Arsenal players.
