Sport24.co.za | Krige backs Boks to hit back

Cape Town – Former national team captain Corne Krige feels there is too much talent in the Springbok team for them to not hit back in the second Test against Ireland.

Ireland’s shock 26-20 win in last Saturday’s first Test at Newlands was their first win over the Springboks in South Africa in eight attempts.

Their feat was made all the more remarkable considering they played the majority of the match with 14 men, after flank CJ Stander received a red card.

Overall, the two nations have faced each other in 23 Tests, with South Africa boasting a 16-6 win-loss ratio, with one match ending in a draw.

Ireland though have now won five of the last seven Tests played between the nations.

But Krige is confident the tables will be turned in Johannesburg on Saturday after predicting an outcome via his official Twitter account:

The now 41-year-old played 39 Tests for the Springboks between 1999 and 2003.

Kick-off for Saturday’s clash at Ellis Park is scheduled for 17:00.
