Sport24.co.za | Rose looking to 'grind' at US Open

Pennsylvania – Former winner Justin Rose revealed that he is preparing for a staunch challenge at the US Open on Thursday.

The 2013 US Open winner will be part of the star-studded field teeing off at Oakmont Country Club this week. The course has a reputation for its difficulty, with lightning greens and bunkers galore.

“A US Open can often be last man standing,” the 35-year-old told BBC Sport.

“Guys are going to make mistakes, you are going to have your stretch where you feel like you’re slipping out of contention.

“But you have to realise everyone is going to face that at some point through 72 holes, so just stick with it – grind it out.”

Rose has been out of action since his T19 finish at the Players Championship due to a back injury. While he is not operating at 100 per cent just yet, Rose is confident he will hit his straps at Oakmont.

“I just have to be very diligent with my rehab at the moment,” added the world number ten.

“I haven’t hit top gear just yet this year, so to speak, but I am playing really well, very consistently and just looking for that extra something to get me into the winner’s circle and have a great run.”

The 116th US Open tees off at Oakmont on Thursday (June 16).
