Call it the “fake and bake” approach. (The ATP itself did just that.) Indeed, it truly seems like something out of the Nick Kyrgios/Bernard Tomic Tennis Playbook, a shot off the racquet of one of those pros who sometimes have maddening laissez-faire attitudes on court.
Not much was laissez-faire from Tiafoe in this match, though. He trounced Groth 6-3, 6-3, before winning another round and ultimately surrendering a three-set quarterfinal match against Tatsuma Ito in Dallas.
Pity poor Groth and his team, who perhaps had other problems on their minds this week.
