Tony Stewart cleared to begin rehab program that will "hasten" recovery

A timetable for Tony Stewart’s return to racing has still not been set.

In a release from Stewart-Haas Racing today, the team stated that the three-time Sprint Cup champion was evaluated by doctors and given a progress report today.

The news is positive for the 44-year-old NASCAR superstar, who suffered a burst fracture of the L1 vertebra on January 31st while driving a sand rail in the Glamis Sand Dunes of the California desert.

“Satisfied with the amount of healing that has taken place, doctors implemented a rehabilitation regimen that will hasten Stewart’s recovery,” the release read. “Future evaluations will be necessary before a timetable is known for Stewart’s return to racing.”

SHR ended their statement by saying that “a full recovery is expected, as is a return to the No. 14 Chevrolet this season.” However, a specific timetable for his return is still yet to be specified.
