There have been many false dawns since Erik Lamela’s £30m arrival from Roma in 2013. Fans know a quality player has always been waiting to show his class, but the young Argentine has only shown glimpses of his brilliance. Most sane fans will have been pleased to see manager Mauricio Pochettino keep faith in him, though. That continued trust has instilled confidence in the 23-year-old and the boss claims his performances over the last few months have made him an important player for Spurs. “When players are young they need more time,” he said. Lamela has scored four times in all competitions this season and put in a man of the match display against Man City and scored in the 5-1 thrashing of Bournemouth.
