WATCH: Olivier Giroud and Dimitri Payet score as France win on Euro 2016 opening night

Dimitri Payet scored the winning goal for France

France secured all three points on opening night of Euro 2016, clinching a 2-1 win over Romania at the Stade de France.

However, it was not as easy as many expected, with Romania putting up a real challenge for the hosts to overcome.

In fact, it took until the dying minutes for Didier Deschamps’ men to actually secure the win.

Having taken the lead through Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, Romania pegged France back moments later, with Bogdan Stancu converting a penalty past Hugo Lloris.

The visitors seemed to be edging towards an impressive draw, but West Ham star Payet popped up on the cusp of injury time to curl a stunner into the back of the net.
