West Ham summer signing Pedro Obiang hopeful of returning to action against Tottenham

Pedro Obiang is hoping to hand West Ham an injury boost by recovering from his thigh strain in time for the London derby against Tottenham on Sunday.

The summer signing picked up the injury in training last month and missed games against Watford and Everton, from which the Hammers took just one point.

Manager Slaven Bilic has since lost both Dmitri Payet and Enner Valencia to injury but could now welcome back Obiang in time to face Spurs.

The 23-year-old midfielder told “I’m feeling better now and I’m training hard to hopefully join the rest of the guys but these things happen.

“I just want to get back as soon as I can to help the team. We’re focusing on the areas where I’m feeling a bit of discomfort so that this week I can start training again with the rest of the team.

“I’m very much looking forward to the next match against Tottenham as I am with every game as it represents a new opportunity to play.

“I really hope that I have recovered by then and I can be part of the squad so I can make the fans happier.”
