Montreal –  Sebastian Vettel’s current deal runs until the end of 2017, but the four-time Formula 1 world champion is already in talks to extend his Ferrari contract.

That is the claim of Germany’s Auto Bild, with the report claiming a new three-year deal is in the works for the 28-year-old, which would take his tenure through to 2020.

Number 1 style clause

Vettel is quoted as saying: “I don’t just want to be world champion again, I want to be world champion with Ferrari.”

And Sport Bild quotes Vettel adding: “Whether we succeed, no one can know. But the journey is the reward.”

Auto Bild said the value of Vettel’s three-year extension could be an incredible €100 million, including a number 1-style clause allowing him a say on who his teammate is.

Raikkonen’s future uncertain

Vettel’s quotes come a day after Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene dropped another hint that the team is seriously contemplating keeping Kimi Raikkonen in the team beyond 2016.

Candidates including Daniel Ricciardo, Nico Rosberg and Romain Grosjean are reportedly eyeing the potential vacancy, but team boss Arrivabene thinks Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel is working well as the current Ferrari line-up.
